Florida

The following year was a bit quieter. I had a few smaller trips to Iceland/Norway, Ireland, Greece and Egypt (for diving) but there was one trip especially worth writing about.

At christmas 2016 I travelled to New York followed by a roadtrip in Florida with my cousin.

At first I actually didn't expect me to feel comfortable in NYC but I did fall in love with that beautiful place. I  know that many people say it's dirty and there's crime and also a big gap between poverty and wealth but I say it's alive with the great broadway shows, the incredible views from the rooftops, the variety of people who live, work and trying to fulfill their dreams there. In the town that never sleeps with the huge green spot right in the middle of it has (especially for young people) such a great lifestyle. Just living your life to the fullest and try whatever you want to do.

We did do some sightseeing but also met a friend of mine who I got to know when he was in Germany as an exchange student. Meeting him was really nice because that's how we got to see the district Queens and a bit of Williamsburg and some secret spots he loves as a local (picture1&2).

We've been to the Rockefeller Center (picture 4) which I would always recommend because you can see downtown and the Empire State Building on the one handside and on the other you see the Central Park (which you cannot see from the Empire State Building). We had some runs in the Central Park (pic 3) and visited the 9/11 Memorial (pic 5). It's a very thoughtful athmosphere being at the spot where once stood two huge and famous towers, the World Trade Center. Now there are two waterfall pools remembering the almost 3000 victims of the worst terrorist attack ever in the US. Definitely worth a visit.
The rest of our time in NYC we spent walking around, enjoying the delicious New York Pizza and visiting the broadway show 'Phantom of the Opera'.
In the end I was a little sad to leave New York City because there's still plenty to do but I was also looking forward to flying towards the sun, to Miami.

When we arrived, we rent a car and headed south to the Keys right away. In Key Largo, our first stop, we did some diving and snorkeling which was great. It's a beautiful place and we met very interesting people on the boat. One day later we drove further west until we reached Key West, a famous little 'holiday' town. It's a relaxed athmosphere and there're beautiful streets with pretty houses. Simply a great place to stay and live. The drive was also very enjoyable. The well-known highway which was built from island to island offers great views while driving the car.

The Keys were a very good start but it was time to head back north. We stopped in Fort Myers next where we spent New Years Eve. Well kind of. We basicly slept through the night which was really nice.
At least we had a good night sleep so that we could start freshly the next year with a good workout and a drive to Clearwater close to Tampa. There we spent the night on a house boat which was a great experience. Great view, a Jacuzzi on the top, surrounded by the sea and very laid back owners/hosts.
In the afternoon we also did something active - we went kayaking. It was quite impressiv because of the many small river in that area we got to see the hidden dream houses and beautiful nature.

While spending  some quite time in the beginning of the year we figured out that we should do some shopping which we did in Orlando. We were told that there's not much to do besides the Adventure Parks and Disneyland. So we shopped a lot and left on the second day, heading to Cocoa Beach. It's a place in the east of Florida which is close to the beach and known as a typical holdiay place. We just wanted to spent at least one day at the beach, enjoying the heat, the sea and being on holiday. So we decided to book a good hotel this time and enjoyed ourselves a little. We were lucky that we decided to have a walk that evening because of the sunset. I've never seen the colours changing in the sky and the wet sand so quickly. It was just beautiful and moments of pure joy.

Sadly we left the next day to drive back to Miami where we spent our last couple of days. I personally didn't like Miami too much but there're also nice spots we visited. The pics show an art district called Wynwood. On the walls of the houses you find all kind of drawings and inside many art galleries. Another nice district is Coconut Grove which is located in Southern Miami. There're plenty of bars, restaurants, nice walks so that you can spend there a day off if you want to.

Unfortunately there's always an end to the best times and travels. Here we are.
Heading back to the cold and rainy Germany, remembering the past to weeks and sucking in the very last minutes of traveling at the airport.

Goodbye America, see you again!
