Erste Eindrücke in Südafrika

Nach einem reibungslosen Flug von insgesamt 14 Stunden bin ich gestern Abend gut in Johannesburg, Südafrika angekommen. Ich habe ein kleines Appartement mit Bad,  Schlafzimmer, Küche und Sofaecke auf der Base der Organisation JAM (Joint Aid Management) bezogen, welches zusätzlich einen wunderschönen Ausblick hat. Diese seht ihr auch auf dem Foto, das heute, den 03.09.2014 um 7 Uhr morgens entstanden ist. Heute bin ich mit einer Gruppe aus der Schweiz und einigen anderen Helfern zu meinem ersten "make-over" gefahren. Das war in einem der Townships im Süden Johannesburgs. Dort haben wir einen Bürocontainer, der als kleine Schule bzw. Kindergarten für 40 Kinder dient, gestrichen und im Garten Lebensmittelpflanzen angelegt und einen Kinderspielplatz erschaffen. Mir hat das großen Spaß gemacht, da die Menschen super nett, lustig und aufgeschlossen sind! Außerdem ist das herzliche Lachen der Einheimischen unglaublich ehrlich und ansteckend. Goodbye Brazil - Hello Ecuador!

The last 10 days in Rio were a bit exhausting, but I am free now! I managed to finish the Bachelor Thesis, so that I have a free mind for the next five weeks! I felt a bit sad about leaving Brazil, but I also was very excited about leaving for the next adventure. The last Thursday I spent in Rio was the Christmas Party of the institute which was the perfect occasion to say my goodbyes. It basically was a party with free food, free drinks and a DJ in the parking garage. In the beginning I thought about only showing up for half an hour as I had work to do, but it was too much fun! Should I have worked on my Thesis? Probably. Should I have skipped the very last brazilian Caipirinha? Definitely. Did I actually care? Absolutely not. I guess, I know where my priorities are. On Saturday morning I finally headed to the airport and started with my actual holiday. The first stop was Quito in Ecuador. Travels 2018 / 2019

Just a short overview what I did so far in 2018/2019 and also for showing some photos because - again - I somehow didn't share them a lot with family and friends. Sorry about that. On Easter Holiday I visited Paulina in South Africa to meet her little girl and see some friends again. I enjoyed being back a lot, although it was only for a weekend. Unfortunately my friend Chadrac wasn't in Johannesburg, his friend Camille took very good care of me. He dedicated his whole weekend to me, drove me around, checked me in the hotel (which of course was already booked), picked me up and dropped me off at the airport. Every time I go back to Africa, I am amazed by the selflessness and hospitality. Thanks so much! Paulinas daughter "Alondweyinkosi" is super cute as you can see!
