Sensation and Wonder
As I already told you, my next stop was the Galapagos islands - so here I am.
At the moment, I am on Santa Cruz, an island very well known for diving.
When I arrived on Thursday, I couldn't stop feeling grateful and priviledged. I am at THE destination for divers. With 24, I managed to get here more or less by accident. I get to see one of the most natural places of the world. I reached one of my highest goals. How could I not feel overwhelmed and just so so lucky?
As we (a guy from the dive shop and me) made our way across the island to reach the town Puerto Ayora, the climate changed dramatically. In the middle of the island there seems to be some phenomen, so that it is quite humid and easily five degrees less compared to the northern and southern part of the island. Especially the northern part is incredibly dry and sunny and jas complete different vegetation than the rest of this fascinating island.
The first day, I only checked in for the following days and dives. So, the next morning I headed to the dive shop and becane incredibly excited. I simply couldn't realize that this is actually happening. So, I tried to get myself together, focus and keep my expectations (kind of) low.
So, far I have not been disappointed. The very first dive we saw quite a few Galapagos-Sharks and also very briefly hammer heads - so incredible!
The second dive on that day provided us with a sea lion just a few inches away, huge turtles - not even an armlength away, and amazing coral / stone formations with plenty of smaller fish.
The following days and dives were amazing, too. We got lucky and saw a lot of hammer heads at one diving side, as well as huge rays. So we just watched them making their way over to sea ground and moving through the water. I still am a little amazed and try to keep that experience present.
I still have two more days of diving left and hope I'll see plenty more amazing things!
The rest of the landscape is also very impressive: amazing colours and great wildlife. So, many surprises everywhere you go.
Well, you might notice in the way I write about my experience here: it is probably the most stunning and mesmarizing place I have been to so far.

Wie ich bereits sagte, war mein nächster Stopp die Galapagos-Inseln - also hier bin ich.
Im Moment bin ich auf Santa Cruz, einer Insel, die fürs Tauchen bekannt ist. Als ich am Donnerstag ankam, konnte ich nicht aufhören, Dankbarkeit zu empfinden und mich uglaublich privilegiert zu fühlen. Ich bin an DEM Ziel für Taucher. Mit 24 habe ich es mehr oder weniger zufällig geschafft, hierher zu kommen. Ich sehe einen der natürlichsten Orte der Welt. Ich habe eines meiner höchsten Ziele erreicht. Wie kann ich mich nicht überwältigt und so glücklich fühlen?
Als wir (ein Angetellter aus dem Tauchshop und ich) über die Insel fuhren, aud dem Weg nach Puerto Ayora, änderte sich das Klima drasrisch. In der Mitte der Insel scheint es das Phänomen zu geben, dass es im Vergleich zum nördlichen und südlichen Teil der Insel ziemlich humid und locker 10 Grad weniger ist. Besonders der nördliche Teil ist unglaublich trocken und sonnig und hat eine völlig andere Vegetation als der Rest dieser faszinierenden Insel.
Am ersten Tag habe ich mich nur für die folgenden Tage und Tauchgänge eingecheckt.
Also ging ich am nächsten Morgen zum Tauchshop und wurde unglaublich hibbelig und gespannt. Ich konnte es einfach nicht fassen, dass es tatsächlich so weit war. Ich habe versucht, mich zusammenzureißen, zu konzentrieren und meine Erwartungen (irgendwie) niedrig zu halten.
Schon beim ersten Tauchgang haben wir einige Galapagos-Haie und auch ganz kurz Hammerhaie gesehen - so unglaublich! Der zweite Tauchgang an diesem Tag brachte uns einen nur wenige Zentimeter entfernten Seelöwen, riesigen Schildkröten - nicht einmal eine Armlänge entfernt - und erstaunlichen Korallen- / Steinformationen mit vielen kleineren Fischen.
Die folgenden Tage und Tauchgänge waren auch fantastisch. Wir hatten Glück und sahen eine Menge Hammerhaie an einem Tauchspot sowie riesige Rochen. Also sahen wir ihnen nur zu, wie sie sich über dem Meeresboden bewegten. Ich bin immer noch ein bisschen erstaunt und versuche, diese Erfahrung präsent zu halten. Ich habe noch zwei weitere Tauchtage und hoffe, dass ich noch viele weitere tolle Dinge sehe!
Der Rest der Landschaft ist auch sehr beeindruckend: erstaunliche Farben und eine tolle Tierwelt. So viele Überraschungen, wo immer man auch hingeht.
Nun, werdet ihr vielleicht gemerkt haben, wie begeistert ich bin: Es ist wahrscheinlich der beeindruckendste und einer der schönsten Orte, an dem ich bisher gewesen bin.
Ich halte euch auf dem Laufenden, wie es auf den anderen Inseln weiter geht!
